Power Generation

As we look to advance a clean energy future, natural gas can play a growing role in powering our nation. More and more communities across the country are embracing natural gas as a clean, reliable and efficient source of domestic energy.

  • When used to generate electricity natural gas burns cleaner than other fuel sources, with less pollutants and no mercury. This means cleaner air in our communities.
  • Natural gas complements renewable energy sources – providing clean, reliable power when the sun sets or wind dies down.
  • Natural gas is ready now and vastly underutilized for power generation, so it can be ramped up quickly for an immediate reduction in harmful emissions.
  • Low, stable prices for the long term means more utilities are making the switch to natural gas.

In addition to its environmental benefits, natural gas power plants also make strong economic sense. Their favorable “life-cycle” economics include faster and cheaper construction, greater efficiency and lower construction and operational costs.

“We have an unconventional gas revolution in the US. I expect it to be the default fuel in electric power.”
